These lower windows, on the West side of the church depict events from the life of Mary. They coincide with the tradition of dedicating the left side of the church (from the perspective of the worshiper facing the sanctuary) to Mary.

These lower windows, on the East side of the church depict events from the life of Joseph. The right side of the church was typically dedicated to St. Joseph. In ancient times, men and women sat on separate sides of the church. The men on Joseph's side and the women on Mary's side.
